Hi everyone!

So here’s an example of the “chapter by chapter” articles that I’m going to publish as I read books along. There will be a short summary of each chapter, and mini-reviews that can cover one or more chapters at a time. So yeah, obviously, these blog articles are going to be full of spoilers. If you haven’t read the book concerned, read on at your own risks.

But first, some general information on the book that this specific article will cover.

Title: Fourth Wing

Author: Rebecca Yarros

Genre: Romantasy

Number of pages: 561 pages

What the book is about: We follow the story of Violet Sorrengail, a student at Basgiath War College and a cadet in the Riders Quadrant – that is, the dragon riders’ quadrant.

Chapter by Chapter

Chapter 1

Violet Sorrengail is on her way to General Sorrengail’s office (yeah, that’s her mom) when she hears her sister, Mira, arguing with her. And what are they arguing about? Well, her, of course. Because she’s about to join the Riders Quadrant at Basgiath War College, when she’s trained for the Scribers Quadrant all her life. Mira fails to change her mother’s mind, and so helps Violet as best she can by giving her last-minute advice. And then Violet heads to the courtyard, where she meets Rhiannon Matthias and Dylan and befriends them… or the closest she comes to it anyway. They then head to the Parapet, which is the first trial they have to go through in order to be considered a cadet in the Riders Quadrant. The problem? The parapet is eighteen inches wide, so high that a fall would kill you. And just as Violet is about to step on it, she witnesses Dylan falling off the parapet, and it starts raining. You know, to make everything easier. Plus, she gets to meet Xaden Riorson, one of her family’s greatest enemies – his father did kill her brother, after all. Happy times, obviously.

My thoughts

A very interesting first chapter, which definitely sets the story into place in a… well, rather deadly way. I already like Violet a lot, mainly because of her inner monologues, and also because she can’t seem to follow her sister’s advice about not making friends. I hope her and Rhiannon’s friendship stays that way.

More chapters to come!
