The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal

The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal

The theme for this month’s TBR Challenge was “Something Different”, an unusual setting, sub genre you don’t read all the time, etc. I chose The Calculating Stars because I haven’t read a lot of science fiction lately, it had a lot of positive buzz, and I had bought it during an ebook sale but had yet to read it.

Review: On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn

This month the TBR Challenge is to read a book that is part of a series. I wanted to like this book. I have read and enjoyed each of the earlier books in this series and have rated them a B or a C, but this book bored and frustrated me right from the beginning. The first scene is of the hero interrupting a wedding (you don’t find out whose wedding until much later in the book), and right from that point I was not really feeling the love for the plot. I am not a fan of books where people are embarrassed or made to feel less than others, and it felt to me that this is what this book was all about. The heroine deserved better than this.

Review:  Free Fall by Emma Barry & Genevieve Turner

Once again I am behind in my blogging, but the #TBRChallenge is getting me back into the groove. (I have been reading, but have not been writing and posting reviews.) Luckily, the theme this month is Series – book that is part of series, and I just happened to be reading such a book: Free Fall by Emma Barry & Genevieve Turner. Free Fall is part of the Fly Me to the Moon series, an alternate history version of the

Review:   Breakaway by Catherine Gayle

It has been a busy month, and I see I haven’t reviewed any books since my last TBR Challenge review. I am trying to write a book of my own and I haven’t had as much spare time to do other things, like reviewing my “fun” reading. In fact, the book I have chosen for this month’s challenge (theme this month: Contemporary) is a book I was assigned to read as part of a plotting course I am taking to improve my

Review:  To Have and To Hold by Patricia Gaffney

The theme for this month’s TBR Challenge is Kicking it Old School (original publication date older than 10 years). I picked To Have and to Hold by Patricia Gaffney, which was originally published in 1995. It is the second book in the Wyckerley Trilogy. I knew this book was a bit controversial, but I bought it when it was on sale a long time ago and I never got around to reading it. I had previously read and

Review: The Captain’s Daughter by Jennifer Delamere

The theme for this month’s TBR Challenge is Sugar or Spice (closed door romance or spicy romance). I picked The Captain’s Daughter by Jennifer Delamere. I have read very few books that I would classify as part of the Inspirational or Christian Fiction genre and it is always good to try something new, and it was there waiting for me in my TBR. In trying to come up with the keywords for this review, I

The Winter Olympics, particularly the figure skating, is messing up my reading and writing schedule. I am way behind in posting any reviews here basically because I haven’t done a lot of reading lately because I am such a figure skating fan. The TBR Challenge is definitely helping to motivate me to get a post up. This month’s theme is Backlist Glom (author with multiple books in your TBR). I have 5 books by
