TBR Challenge 2019

Review:  Tikka Chance on Me by Suleikha Snyder

I haven’t reviewed in a while, but I have missed it, so I am trying again with the TBR Challenge. The month the challenge is “We Love Short Shorts! (shorter reads)”. I was hearing a lot of positive buzz about Tikka Chance on Me by Suleikha Snyder, so that is what I picked.

This was a fun, short read. Normally I find that most novellas I read end up with a “Yeah, it was ok. 3 stars” rating from me, but this one was better than that. There was a lot of humor, and the world building felt richer than you usually see in such a short story. Pinky is a first generation American whose parents run an Indian restaurant in a small town. She is working there after dropping out of grad school, and it is there she reconnects with Trucker, who was a couple of years ahead of her in high school. He is now a member of the town motorcycle gang, and he likes Indian food so he keeps coming in to her restaurant.

Trucker and Pinky have a very nerdy, banter-heavy relationship. I enjoyed all of their scenes together. It is definitely not your typical motorcycle romance, as Tucker is rather sweet. The romance is quick, and involves lots of hot sex. This story falls on the erotic side of the romance spectrum, so if that is not your cup of tea, this is not the book for you. I enjoyed it a lot and laughed out loud a couple of times. Definitely different for a motorcycle club hero.

We really only see Pinky’s parents through her eyes (the story is pretty short, so not really a lot of room for characters other than the hero and heroine), but I really appreciated Pinky’s comments to herself about, in particular, her mother’s response to “Amrikan” girls. This is one of those cases where the world of the book is not one that I am familiar with, but one I wanted to hear more about. I enjoyed reading about Pinky’s issues with her Desi mom, and would have enjoyed reading about them in a longer story. An author I will definitely read again.
